Owing to the rapid domestic economical growth, the industry has transformed from labor-intense to a technology-intense pattern. Therefore, Industrial Engineering plays an extremely important role in industrial development at present in Taiwan. It is impossible for either the current or future industrial development to rely on a single discipline. It has become necessary to identify an effective managerial system engaging in predicting, planning, controlling, improving, synthetically coordinating, and integrating, in order to effectively and reasonably utilize limited resources and maximize the aggregative benefits. The main function of industrial engineering and management personnel is to accelerate accomplishment of the aforementioned goals. In other words, industrial engineers are ‘magicians' who can identify and solve problems for industry and, eventually, reduce costs and create profits for industry.

The prospective employment opportunities in industry for Industrial Engineering graduates are: production engineers, production facilities planning engineers, production lines planning/scheduling engineers, quality control/quality assurance engineers, reliability engineers, ESH risk management engineers, etc. Currently, there is a great demand for industrial engineering graduates in industry.
