History

The Office of Student Affairs is established according to the Article 14 in Chapter 3 of University Act of the R.O.C. and the Article 7 in Chapter 2 of organization regulations of Chien Hsin University of Science and Technology.

Organization and Main Job

The Office of Student Affairs is divided into five sections: Extracurricular Activities, Life Guidance, Guidance and Counseling, Health, and Physical Education and Sports.The purpose of this office is to build a safe, warm, harmonious, egalitarian, pleasant and friendly school ambience. Our goals are to help students to become well-rounded and well-developed individuals intellectually and physically, to provide financial assistance for students in need, to maximize students’ potential, to help students to appreciate life, to improve the activities of students’ associations, and to help students mature and acquire collaborative styles of working. The duties and business of the sections are as below:

Extracurricular Activities Section

The mission of the Extracurricular Activities Section is to enhance campus diversity on Student life by providing student organizations with necessary facilities and spaces for holding activities.

With the support of this section, students are expected to gain the knowledge and skills in interpersonal communication, self-achievement, leadership in management, etc. that are usually not emphasized in regular courses. The major services include:

  1. To help students develop student organizations
  2. To coordinate major campus-wide events like University sports day and graduation ceremony
  3. To promote holistic education and service-learning education

All the services above are devoted to helping students develop diverse interests that may enrich their university life. Currently, there are more than 65 student organizations active in offering various extracurricular activities on campus. By doing the best they can, the staff is constantly dedicated to promoting the quality of student campus events.

Life Guidance Section

The mission of the Extracurricular Activities Section is to enhance campus diversity on student life by providing student organizations with necessary facilities and spaces for holding activities.

With the support of this section, students are expected to gain the knowledge and skills in interpersonal communication, self-achievement, leadership in management, etc. that are usually not emphasized in regular courses. The major services include:

  1. To help students develop student organizations
  2. To coordinate major campus-wide events like University sports day and graduation ceremony
  3. To promote holistic education and service-learning education
  4. To process all types of financial aid and scholarship applications

All the services above are devoted to helping students develop diverse interests that may enrich their university life. Currently, there are more than 70 student organizations active in offering various extracurricular activities on campus. By doing the best they can, the staff is constantly dedicated to promoting the quality of student campus events.

The goal of the Student Life Guidance Services is to address all issues concerning students’ life consultation and campus safety education, as well as to assist in the adaptation of campus life.

  1. handling student safety education
  2. processing student mandatory military service
  3. handling tuition reduction or waiver applications
  4. giving penalties and award
  5. evaluating student moral conduct
  6. providing accommodation guidance

Guidance and Counseling Section

The goals of the Guidance and Counseling Section are to take care of the overall development of students and to help solve mental, living, and academic disturbances, thereby developing individual potential and adapting students to the environment of the university. The attainment of these goals will lead the students to a happy and complacent life, and maximize the welfares of individuals, society and country. Main services include

  1. Individual Advising Counseling
  2. Psychological Examination
  3. Small Group Consultation
  4. Provision of Resource Rooms

Health Section

Health Services
The Health Center is located in room A105 of the Administration Building. We have registered nurses in the office from 8:00am-9:50pm. The nurses provide first aid treatment and are prepared to assist with emergency cases. The Health Center can also offer referral services to the nearby clinics and hospitals for students and faculty requiring additional care.

Health Examination
All Students are required to have health Exams at the time of enrollment. The school nurse manages a student’s care based on information reported on the Health Exam and Student Health Record. It is important for the information provided to be accurate and complete.

Communicable Diseases
To keep our school a safe and healthy place for all students to learn, the Health Center would appreciate your cooperation in dealing with possible contagious illnesses. If you have been exposed to and will be absent due to contagious illness, please email your tutor or report to the Health Center.

On Campus Injuries or Accidents
The Health Center nurse will attend to any student who sustains an injury on campus. If outside medical assistance is needed, the student will be transported by taxi or ambulance to the nearby hospital. Parents will be notified to meet the student at the hospital.

Physical Education and Sport department
According to the regulations of Ministry of Education and the equipment of UCH, the purpose of the Physical Education and Sport Department is to provide service for all teaching staff and students. The goals to attain are: drills for sound physical and mental health, accelerating regular development, breeding athletic morals, promoting athletic knowledge, comprehension of sport’s methods, and raising the sport level. We are responsible for :

  1. Physical education teaching
  2. Campus sport competition
  3. Intercollegiate sport competition
  4. School athlete’s training affairs.

Special Education Center

Our goal:

  1. To provide professional support related to studying, living, and transitions for students with special needs.
  2. To provide all faculty members and students professional consultation, special case counseling, and other resources in special education.

To reach our goal,we set Resource Room under Special Education Center,and provide the following services for students with special educational needs.

  1. Equipment and Space Provides assistance equipment, such as language learning machine, computers , wheelchairs,books, audio books, recorders, recording pens, earphones and other learning equipment.
  2. Test Assistance Service
  3. Provides part-time job opportunities to students with special educational needs.
  4. Learning tutorial service
  5. Transition Service
  6. On-campus Coordination
  7. Resources Information for students with special educational needs
  8. Mental Health Counseling
  9. Career counseling
  10. Hold activities:(1)Group activities for students with disabilities.(2)Career development activity
