As president of Chien Hsin University, I see as my goal the upgrading of this institution to a first-rate technical university. The future UCH will be distinctive, occupying a special position between the community college and the academic university. I sincerely call on all UCH faculty members and students to pursue the following goals: 1. Pursuit of Localization and Internationalization The education provided in technical and vocational schools is different from that provided by research-orientated universities. It aims to mold students into skilled personnel, equipping them with the professional competence required for future careers. UCH enlists the help of local industry to enhance educational programs and strengthen the quality of academic research. In addition, this institution pursues further cordial links with overseas schools and multinational businesses for international development. 2. Establishment of a High-Quality Teaching and Research Environment Besides five colleges and seventeen departments, UCH established graduate schools in 2001. This initiative is expected to raise significantly the level of Chien Hsin University's academic research. In order to enhance further the efficiency of faculty teaching and research, our institution provides a range of sophisticated equipment, research offices, and extra pay for research specialists. 3. Cultivation of a Spirit of Academic Democracy Having fostered a spirit of academic freedom, UCH also gives attention to student solidarity. It is the motto "A Better Tomorrow for Chien Hsin" that encourages the enthusiastic participation of students and faculty in school affairs, allowing them to voice constructive opinions. Teamwork between students and faculty will create a brilliant future for Chien Hsin University. I hope to provide an ideal academic setting in which students can concentrate on learning and develop into qualified professionals. I want all graduates to be proud of UCH. Finally, I hope that all teachers and students will make every effort to realize Chien Hsin's goal of becoming a first-rate university of technology with a first-rate faculty and academic environment.
